2nd Annual Expect Miracles
in Manhattan Highlights
A sold out crowd Made Headlines at Expect Miracles in Manhattan on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. Over 300 guests gathered at Bryant Park Grill for conversation, cocktails and record-breaking fundraising in support of the fight against cancer. Expect Miracles Foundation established this New York tradition — to bring the financial community together to raise funds — in support of the critical research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s Center for Experimental Therapeutics.*
As the VIP guests arrived, they were greeted by the vocals of a local celebrity singing the tunes of Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin along with a champagne toast and VIP gift bags featuring a Custom Fit Shirt from LABEL, a special Shiseido product, a Vineyard Vines tie, and more. The Main Reception highlighted the delicious cuisine from Bryant Park Grill's kitchen, alongside an open bar featuring wine courtesy of Rothschild. Guests also had the unique opportunity to meet Dr. Jason Lewis of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Frank Heavey, Executive Director, began the speaking program: “We are a for-purpose charity with the mission of rallying the financial industry to invest in life-saving cancer research and advance patient care programs nationwide. Tonight’s theme is You Can Make Headlines, and we truly believe that by rallying you and targeting our pooled philanthropic investments to support the most promising research and programs, we can have the greatest impact. We hope to one day Make Headlines that all cancers have a cure!” After recognizing the Corporate and Event Sponsors led by Interactive Data, Heavey welcomed Event Co-Chairs Scott Brady from Merrill Lynch and Ben Huneke from Morgan Stanley Wealth Management to the stage.
Brady shared a heartwarming story about his family’s experiences with cancer, and he reminded the guests that Expect Miracles Foundation allows the financial industry to fight cancer by doing what it already does in the normal course of business - network. Huneke agreed with Brady, saying “Expect Miracles Foundation offers our industry a tremendous opportunity to have a great impact in the fight against cancer.” Huneke introduced Dr. Jason Lewis from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Lewis asked the crowd to “do everything you can tonight to put me out of a job!”
After record-breaking fundraising during the exciting live auction, which featured a five-night getaway for up to 10 people, golf with Ben Huneke, and a Valentine's Day package, Frank Strauss, Founder and Chairman, took the stage. Strauss began by stating that he started Expect Miracles Foundation 22 years ago as his mother was battling cancer and thanks to the support of donors and doctors, she is doing well today. Strauss then presented the Expect Miracles Award, the highest individual award given by the Foundation, in recognition of an individual who goes above and beyond to donate or raise significant funds for Expect Miracles Foundation and the fight against cancer, to Kim Mustin of BNY Mellon.
If you did not have a chance to make a donation, you may do so here. Thank you to the generous sponsors, donors, New York Committee and volunteers, as Expect Miracles in Manhattan would not have been possible without your support. On behalf of the entire Expect Miracles Foundation team, we thank you for taking part in an unforgettable night and hope to see you at our next event, the 22nd East Coast Classic in Plymouth, MA!
