Expect Miracles Foundation was pleased to welcome over 130 golfers at the sold-out West Coast Classic on September 21st. This year’s event was held at the spectacular St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, California and brought the financial community together to support the fight against cancer.
Special guest Don Pooley. PGA professional, held a putting clinic for guests before they tee’d off. Pooley has won tournaments on both the PGA Tour and Champions Tour and shared his tips and tricks with attendees. However, golfer Keith Brown didn’t need any pointers, as he made an exciting hole-in-one during the tournament.
Steve Garvey, former Major League Baseball Player and current Southern California businessman, emceed the evening reception. Live auction items included tickets to the MTV Music Awards, a Tom Brady signed football, and more. In addition to announcing the golf awards, a special $5,000 donation was presented to the Art Therapy Program at the Jonathon Jaques Children’s Cancer Center (JJCCC) located at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach (MCHLB). Art Therapy is offered to all patients and aims to help children and teens with cancer to better cope with their diagnosis and prognosis and aids in their recovery and quality of life. Artwork from the program was on display at the reception and Renae Waestman-Furlow presented Christina Thirkell, Executive Director of Expect Miracles Foundation, a special piece of artwork from one of the children in the program.
In addition to the tournament, on September 20th the Expect Miracles Foundation held it’s first West Coast Cocktail Reception for local executives and golfers. Musical entertainment was provided by Dodger’s Legend Mudcat Grant’s soulful band. Attendees perused silent auction items while enjoy cocktails and southwestern fare.
