September 16th, 2013
Beautiful weather, breathtaking views, and overwhelming generosity made the 5th Annual West Coast Classic a memorable day on September 16th. Led by Foundation Sponsor, Interactive Data Corporation, golfers joined Expect Miracles Foundation for another sold-out event. This year’s tournament was held at the spectacular Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Coast, CA and brought the financial community together to support the fight against cancer.

Upon arrival, golfers enjoyed breakfast and were treated to a shopping spree at a Tommy Bahama's onsite popup store. While hitting the links for a picture perfect day of golf, participants were treated to a margarita tasting courtesy of Partida Tequila and a Wine Tasting from PRP Wines. Participants were greeted at the putting contest by special guest, Kyle Lograsso. Kyle is an 11-year old cancer Survivor. He was diagnosed with Bilateral Retinoblastoma (cancer of the eyes) at the age of 2. The disease took Kyle’s left eye but not his passion for the game he loves Golf. He has taken this passion and inspired millions of people all over the world. Kyle was the first person to sink the 30 foot putt and he was able to give the golfers some tips as they participated in the contest. Hole #7 proved extra enticing with a new 2014 Jaguar F Type Convertible up for grabs to the first hole-in-one, courtesy of Jaguar Land Rover Mission Viejo.
When the golfers finished the round, everyone gathered on the stunning new outdoor patio for the Sunset Cocktail Party. Founder & Chairman, Frank Strauss, began the speaking program and welcomed a Board Member from The Evelyn Grace Foundation (of Seal Beach, CA), Mary Pifer, to say a few words. Expect Miracles Foundation funded the Evelyn Grace Foundation with a $10,000 grant in 2013 through the Miracle Maker Leadership Council Funding Award to support Evie’s Bundle of Love Program, providing care packages of comfort items and financial assistance to children recently diagnosed with cancer and their families. Next, special guest, Kyle Lograsso, shared a few words regarding his experiences with cancer and golf. He ended by saying how happy he is to |kick cancer's butt.| Frank Strauss proudly presented a $3,000 check on behalf of Expect Miracles Foundation to the Through Kyle's Eyes Foundation.
Jon Meterparel served as emcee for the evening reception and hosted the live auction. Jon is a signature on-air personality in New England covering sports at both the professional and collegiate levels most notably with WEEI and as a BC football and basketball announcer. Expect Miracles Foundation was overwhelmed by the generosity displayed during the auction program featuring items such as a Rickie Fowler autographed bag, Patriots Tickets, a Lake Tahoe getaway, and a Boston College football package. Attendees started a trend of donating all prizes and auction items back to the Foundation to be auctioned off again and again, leading the Foundation to receive record breaking donations.
We want to thank all our donors, supporters, and friends for making this West Coast event so successful and memorable. In addition, we owe much gratitude and thanks to the members of the West Coast Advisory Committee for their input, dedication, and commitment towards improving and augmenting our west coast presence and programs!
We look forward to seeing everyone next year!
