On April 20, 2009 runners Kieron Kassner, Emily Reed, and Debi Dodds ran the 113th Annual Boston Marathon. During their training, these three amazing women raised awareness and funds while training to race to the finish line with nearly 22,000 other participants. In total, the MFAC Boston Marathon Team raised over $19,000. More highlights below.
Kieron Kassner, Account Manager at Interactive Data Corp, finished with a race time of 4hrs and 20min. In addition, Kieron raised over $11,000 for MFAC.
“My two friends and colleagues, Bill Ward and Ken Starr both recently beat cancer - a feat much more daunting then finishing ANY marathon. But the race to find a cure continues and your support will help us reach the finish line. Thanks so much for your contribution!”
Debi Dodds of PricewaterhouseCoopers also ran with over 22,000 participants and crossed the finish line in 3hrs and 44mins, while raising an astonishing $4,830.20.
“I have 2 numbers I am very proud of and wanted to share with you...3:44 and $4,830.20. The first is my time, which is about 8 minutes faster than I ran last year and a guarantee that I will be doing this crazy race again sometime in the next 2 years. The second is, by far, the more important number representing the amount we have raised for MFAC. These donations will help fund ongoing cancer research at the Center for Applied Cancer Science. Research is the key to finding a cure, and funding for this research is essential. I cannot thank you enough on behalf of myself, PwC, and our friends at MFAC.”
Emily Reed from PricewaterhouseCoopers ran the Marathon for the first time… an amazing feat and accomplishment that should be praised and inspire all. She crossed the finish line in 4hrs and 42min and raised over $2,500 for MFAC. She is a true winner in MFAC’s heart.
"Running a marathon has always been a life goal of mine and supporting cancer research has been a lifelong commitment. I couldn't be more grateful to MFAC for the opportunity to combine these two passions. Crossing the finish line on April 20th is a moment I will remember forever."
We thank these three special women for their determination and perseverance; your commitment to MFAC is truly an investment in finding a cure and saving lives.
Hope to see you all next year and that your stories inspire more people to run on behalf of MFAC in 2010.

The Run of the Charles is a series of kayak and canoe races that take place on the scenic Charles River in Boston, MA. Employees of Gravity Financial have teamed up with MFAC again in 2009 to help raise over $6000 for the cure.
